Valley Uprising: The Amazing History of Yosemite Climbing

New Sender Films movie charts the birth of modern climbing.

Yosemite National Park in California is absolutely integral to the growth in climbing in the modern era. Its epic 1000 metre sheer-sided valley proved to be (and still does) a magnet to the climbers the world over.

Names like El Capitain and Half Dome are synonymous with the valley and indeed climbing in general. But, Yosemite wasn’t allows a limbers Mecca. This film from Sender  Films explores the history of climbing in the valley and how a few outsiders from society eventually helped create a climbing culture that spread across the globe.

In a kind of Dogtown and the Z Boys fashion, Valley Uprising charts the rock stars of the climbing world, from early pioneers in the Yosemite Valley such as Yvon Chouinard, Royal Robbins, Lynn Hill and John Long right through to modern marvels such as Alex Honnold and Dean Potter.
