As you might suspect, in the world of lightweight backpacking trimming the fat is everything. Snapping toothbrushes in half and cutting rollmats into barely useable strips are all more common than you may think.
To free-up some crucial extra grammage in your pack for Mars bars, Vaude are launching a 600-gram tent. (We’ve just had a Twix which weighed 25 grams, so 24 of them, or a tent?)
The Lizard GUL (Giga ultra light) features a carbon half length pole of which one end is planted in the ground on a metal spike and kept under tension by the fabric – much like a windsurf sail mast – which forms the structure of the tent. The fabric uses a 10-denier siliconized Ripstop nylon, which is only possible to use reliably in tent construction due to the use of VAUDEs patented cold taping technology.
Wait for it
Excited? Well you’ll have to wait- it’s not even been allowed out of the Vaude vaults yet. It’s first public(ish) appearance will be at the OUTdoor tradeshow this July. We have no details on pricing or on-sale dates but it’s fairly safe to assume it will be on sale next year, so you’ll just have to make do until then.
